This artwork by Andy Warhol achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in New York in July 2020. In the Editions & Works on Paper auction, the work Mao (wallpaper) sold for USD 15,625.00 (€ 13,270.77) - well above the upper estimate of USD 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andy Warhol achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shot Sage Blue Marilyn in May last year with an auction result of USD 195,040,000.00 (€ 181,753,797.41).
