Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2007 Christies in London held the auction Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures), which included the work A lifeboat heading out to a ship in distress by Alfred Herbert. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,080.00 (€ 1,589.29) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Alfred Herbert - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Fishing Vessels In A Squall Off Saint Malo, France, which sold at auction in June 2007 for GBP 3,360.00 (€ 4,986.07).
