This artwork by Alfred Edward Chalon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March 2007. In the British & Continental Watercolours & Maritime Paintings auction, the work Portrait of a lady, three-quarter-length, seated in a chair, with flowers in her hair sold for GBP 900.00 (€ 1,324.70) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 400.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Alfred Edward Chalon; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Ballerinas of the last century: "The Three Graces" - Marie Taglioni, Carlotta Grisi and Amalia Ferraris sold at auction in December 2004 with the realized price of GBP 1,792.50 (€ 2,536.88).
