Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2001 Christies in London held the auction Objects of Vertu and Miniatures, which included the work Mrs. Adey, seated in a green upholstered chair, facing right in blue bordered cream silk dress with fichu, lace scarf tied around her neck, cream lace cap with white ribbons in her curled fair hair, her right arm resting on a white cashmere shawl by Alfred Edward Chalon. The price achieved of GBP 293.75 (€ 474.00) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 250.00 – 350.00. Admittedly, works by Alfred Edward Chalon have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Ballerinas of the last century: "The Three Graces" - Marie Taglioni, Carlotta Grisi and Amalia Ferraris in December 2004 with an auction result of GBP 1,792.50 (€ 2,536.88).
