Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A young gentleman, in black coat and pale yellow waistcoat, dark curling hair; nocturnal sky background (cracked) by Alfred Edward Chalon was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2005. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 200.00 – 300.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 216.00 (€ 317.33) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Alfred Edward Chalon have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Ballerinas of the last century: "The Three Graces" - Marie Taglioni, Carlotta Grisi and Amalia Ferraris in December 2004 with an auction result of GBP 1,792.50 (€ 2,536.88).
