Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Study For A Portrait Of Emperor Nicholas II, Chief Of The Guard Hussar Regiment by Alexander Vladimirovich Makovsky was sold in the Russian Art auction at Christies in London in June 2011. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 85,250.00 (€ 94,313.28) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Alexander Vladimirovich Makovsky - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Market Day In Plyos, which sold at auction in May 2012 for GBP 217,250.00 (€ 270,683.94).
