In September 2001 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings, which included the work Fishing vessels in calm waters by Albert Ernest Markes. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 493.50 (€ 796.79), 41% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Albert Ernest Markes have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A wrecked three-master on the sands with the local inhabitants salvaging what they can in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 4,465.00 (€ 6,220.87).

Im September 2001 führte Christies in London die Auktion British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Fishing vessels in calm waters von Albert Ernest Markes zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 493,50 (€ 796,79) und damit 41% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Albert Ernest Markes auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A wrecked three-master on the sands with the local inhabitants salvaging what they can im Mai 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 4.465,00 (€ 6.220,87).
