Auction result misses estimated price range
In July 2007 a collector was able to acquire the work The converging fleet by Albert Ernest Markes for GBP 132.00 (€ 196.05). This price was achieved in the auction British and Continental Watercolours and Original Book Illustrations at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 200.00 – 300.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Albert Ernest Markes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A wrecked three-master on the sands with the local inhabitants salvaging what they can in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 4,465.00 (€ 6,220.87).
