In the British and Continental Watercolours and Original Book Illustrations auction, the work Racing cutters on opposite tacks changed hands for GBP 120.00 (€ 178.23) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 150.00 – 250.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Albert Ernest Markes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A wrecked three-master on the sands with the local inhabitants salvaging what they can in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 4,465.00 (€ 6,220.87).
