In May 2003 Christies in London held the auction Maritime, which included the work A wrecked three-master on the sands with the local inhabitants salvaging what they can by Albert Ernest Markes. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,465.00 (€ 6,220.87) could thus just exceed the lower estimate.
