In July 2010 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours Day, which included the work Dutch man-of-war in stormy waters by Aernout Smit. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 15,000.00 (€ 18,035.81), 25% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Aernout Smit - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Dutch three-master firing a salute, together with numerous other ships near a quay to the left, a windmill in the distance and outskirts of towns on the far horizon, which sold at auction in October 2021 for EUR 62,500.00.

Für andere Arbeiten von Aernout Smit mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Dutch three-master firing a salute, together with numerous other ships near a quay to the left, a windmill in the distance and outskirts of towns on the far horizon beobachtet, die im Oktober 2021 für EUR 62.500,00 versteigert wurde.
