Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Aernout Smit could be acquired at Sothebys in London in April 2016 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Masters auction, the work Shipping Off A Coast In Choppy Water changed hands for GBP 5,250.00 (€ 6,711.06) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00. Admittedly, works by Aernout Smit have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Dutch three-master firing a salute, together with numerous other ships near a quay to the left, a windmill in the distance and outskirts of towns on the far horizon in October 2021 with an auction result of EUR 62,500.00.
Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Aernout Smit auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A Dutch three-master firing a salute, together with numerous other ships near a quay to the left, a windmill in the distance and outskirts of towns on the far horizon im Oktober 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 62.500,00.
