In May 2008 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction Old Master Pictures, which included the work A naval engagement, said to be the Battle of Agosta, 22 April 1676 by Aernout Smit. The »bidding war« ended at EUR 26,650.00 33% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Aernout Smit - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Dutch three-master firing a salute, together with numerous other ships near a quay to the left, a windmill in the distance and outskirts of towns on the far horizon, which sold at auction in October 2021 for EUR 62,500.00.

Im Mai 2008 führte Christies in Amsterdam die Auktion Old Master Pictures durch, in der auch die Arbeit A naval engagement, said to be the Battle of Agosta, 22 April 1676 von Aernout Smit zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 26.650,00 und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Aernout Smit mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Dutch three-master firing a salute, together with numerous other ships near a quay to the left, a windmill in the distance and outskirts of towns on the far horizon beobachtet, die im Oktober 2021 für EUR 62.500,00 versteigert wurde.
