This artwork by Adriaen van de Velde achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2019. In the Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours Including Works from the Collection of Jean Bonna auction, the work A herdsman with cattle and goats on a river bank sold for GBP 12,500.00 (€ 13,724.17) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Adriaen van de Velde achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work View from the Dunes out to Sea in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 562,500.00 (€ 659,647.88).
