Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
The work Two children eating by candlelight ( recto ); Fragmentary study of a woman's head ( verso ) by Abraham van Strij was worth EUR 18,750.00 to a buyer in May 2015. This price was achieved in the auction The I.Q. van Regteren Altena Collection Part IV at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of EUR 3,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Abraham van Strij - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An interior with a child seated in a high chair teasing a dog, a servant washing by the window behind her, which sold at auction in November 2003 for EUR 59,750.00.
