Max Beckmann is one of the world's most famous German painters. As a member of the Berlin Secession, he spoke out against the academic style preferences and with his figure-determined paintings against abstract art trends. Man, his psyche, is the main concern of the œuvre of this painter, privately described as anxious and sensitive, whose works have a high recognition value.
The Pinakothek der Moderne now opens the second Beckmann exhibition with the painter Friederike Feldmann
The Pinakothek der Moderne is planning three exhibitions on works by Beckmann that enter into dialogue with contemporary artists. After Omer Fast, now Friederike Feldmann continues the series with »EROS & THANATOS« from 05 November 2021.

Probably for this reason, the title of the exhibition is »EROS & THANATOS«, two Greek deities that appeared as a pair of opposites only in the early modern period. Particularly around 1900, through Freud's theses on man's life instinct and death instinct, they were frequently thematized in art and must not have passed Beckmann by, who, among other things, read the writings of Freud's colleague Jung.

Marie-Antoinette 2
Price realised: 6.000 GBP
Feldmann was provided with the Beckmann holdings of the Pinakothek der Moderne for an artistic examination of his own work. The contrasting artistic styles − Feldmann mainly paints room-filling, non-objective murals − will provide results worth seeing. This second part of the exhibition trilogy runs until January 09, 2022.

Patio, Teatro piccolo, Vis à vis
The lively, dynamic and concentrated formal language of sculptor Mathias Kadolph has so far manifested itself primarily through his material, wood. Now, for the first time, he has had miniatures cast in bronze in an edition of twelve sculptures each. These convey essential impressions of his formal ideas and open up to new impulses for our perception.
