ZHENG XIAOXU (1860-1938) Seven-Character Poem by Liu Kezhuang in Standard Running Script Hanging scroll, ink on paper 131 x 32 cm. (51 5 ⁄ 8 x 12 5 ⁄ 8 in.) Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist Dedicated to Mr Nobuhara (Nobuhara Ken, 1892-1977) NOTE: The recipient of this work was Nobuhara Ken (1892-1977), a Japanese translator. He translated many novels, which were serialized and published by Japanese magazines. In 1938, he went to China and operated a film studio in Shanghai and achieved great success. After the Second World War, he returned to Japan and continued his translation and publishing career.
Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Seven-Character Poem by Liu Kezhuang in Standard Running Script by Zheng Xiaoxu was sold in the Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online auction at Christies in Hong Kong in December last year. It achieved a price of HKD 35,280.00 (€ 4,227.80), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 18%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Zheng Xiaoxu achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Landscape And Calligraphy in April this year with an auction result of HKD 90,000.00 (€ 91,907.61).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Seven-Character Poem by Liu Kezhuang in Standard Running Script von Zheng Xiaoxu wurde im Dezember letzten Jahres in der Auktion Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online bei Christies in Hong Kong versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von HKD 35.280,00 (€ 4.227,80) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 18%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Zheng Xiaoxu erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Landscape And Calligraphy im April diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 90.000,00 (€ 91.907,61).
