The work Seven-character Poems by Lu You in Running Script by Zeng Guofan was worth HKD 1,950,000.00 (€ 193,378.50) to a buyer in May 2013. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 100,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Zeng Guofan; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Calligraphy Couplet in Xingshu II sold at auction in April last year with the realized price of HKD 1,890,000.00 (€ 228,514.76).
