Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
When the work Calligraphy Couplet in Xingshu I by Zeng Guofan was auctioned at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 140,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than five times as high at HKD 819,000.00 (€ 99,023.06). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Zeng Guofan - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Calligraphy Couplet in Xingshu II, which sold at auction in April last year for HKD 1,890,000.00 (€ 228,514.76).
Kunstwerk zum Fünffachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Calligraphy Couplet in Xingshu I von Zeng Guofan im April letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 140.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 819.000,00 (€ 99.023,06) mehr als fünfmal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Zeng Guofan mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Calligraphy Couplet in Xingshu II beobachtet, die im April letzten Jahres für HKD 1.890.000,00 (€ 228.514,76) versteigert wurde.
