Acquired directly from the artist in May 1970 by Robert and Nancy Simpson | Mr. Robert Simpson is a retired Foreign Service Officer who worked at the U.S. Consulate in Dacca (Dhaka) in the 1970s. He was assigned there from February 1970 to August 1971 with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) where he was in charge of planning and budgeting the U.S. economic assistance program for East Pakistan.

In March 2019 Sothebys in New York held the auction Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art, which included the work Fishermen by Zainul Abedin. The »bidding war« ended at USD 150,000.00 (€ 133,594.58), 25% above the upper estimate. Other works by Zainul Abedin have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of USD 187,500.00 (€ 161,331.96) in September 2018 for the work Untitled (Santhal Women).

Im März 2019 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Fishermen von Zainul Abedin zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 150.000,00 (€ 133.594,58) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Andere Arbeiten von Zainul Abedin haben noch höhere Preise erzielt - wir haben das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis von USD 187.500,00 (€ 161.331,96) im September 2018 für die Arbeit Untitled (Santhal Women) beobachtet.
