Set of four hanging scrolls, ink on paper, with a dedication to Runzhai, dated xinsi and signed Sangeng with two artist's seals Xu Sangeng yin and Shang yu fu and one collector's seal reading Zhao Mengru zhencang yin.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Calligraphy in Clerical Script, 1881 by Xu Sangeng was sold in the The Reverend Richard Fabian Collection of Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy, Part IV auction at Bonhams in New York in March last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 31,562.50 (€ 28,452.63) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Xu Sangeng - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Standard Script Calligraphy, which sold at auction in December 2020 for HKD 1,025,000.00 (€ 108,115.29).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Calligraphy in Clerical Script, 1881 von Xu Sangeng wurde im März letzten Jahres in der Auktion The Reverend Richard Fabian Collection of Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy, Part IV bei Bonhams in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 31.562,50 (€ 28.452,63) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Xu Sangeng mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Standard Script Calligraphy beobachtet, die im Dezember 2020 für HKD 1.025.000,00 (€ 108.115,29) versteigert wurde.
