XIAO XU (B. 1983) Distinction Scroll, mounted on woodboard and framed, ink and colour on paper 52 x 37.5 cm. (20 1 ⁄ 2 x 14 3 ⁄ 4 in.) Signed by the artist Executed in 2011 NOTE: Born in Chongqing, Xiao Xu graduated from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institution with a major in Chinese painting. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 2007 and 2010 respectively. During this time, Xiao acquired a strong foundation in drawing and a sound vision for artistic creation. Xiao has held many exhibitions abroad. He is skilled in claborate-style painting, and uses a darker colour pallete in his paintings. He utilises a traditional medium and artistic language to create a dreamy atmosphere in his paintings, engaging in dialogue between ancient and modern art.
Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Distinction by Xiao Xu was auctioned at Christies in New York in August this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of HKD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00, the actual price achieved of HKD 50,400.00 (€ 5,928.59) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Xiao Xu achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Invisibility in August last year with an auction result of HKD 495,600.00 (€ 62,731.68).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Distinction von Xiao Xu kam im August diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von HKD 50.000,00 – 70.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von HKD 50.400,00 (€ 5.928,59) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Xiao Xu erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Invisibility im August letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 495.600,00 (€ 62.731,68).
