The »bidding war« ended at USD 28,200.00 (€ 32,350.58), 57% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Willem Wissing - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Francis Thynne, Lady Worsley, full-length, in a red dress and a blue ermine-lined mantle, a domed mansion in a garden beyond, which sold at auction in September 2011 for GBP 79,250.00 (€ 92,066.47).
