This artwork by Willem Wissing achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in November 2007. In the Important British Paintings auction, the work Portrait Of A Lady, Said To Be Nell Gwyn sold for GBP 53,300.00 (€ 74,633.79) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Willem Wissing; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of Francis Thynne, Lady Worsley, full-length, in a red dress and a blue ermine-lined mantle, a domed mansion in a garden beyond sold at auction in September 2011 with the realized price of GBP 79,250.00 (€ 92,066.47).
