In the British, Victorian and Scottish Pictures including Pictures auction, the work Portrait of a lady, half-length, in a white dress and dark shawl sold for GBP 1,880.00 (€ 3,073.31) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Somerville Shanks achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tiddley Winks in November 2008 with an auction result of GBP 181,250.00 (€ 219,144.87).
