Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Lady At The Window (Portrait Study Of Mme E. H. Bensel) by William Merritt Chase was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in July 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 9,375.00 (€ 8,423.18). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Merritt Chase achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work I Think I Am Ready Now (The Mirror, The Pink Dress) in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 6,649,000.00 (€ 4,273,136.25).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Lady At The Window (Portrait Study Of Mme E. H. Bensel) von William Merritt Chase im Juli 2019 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 25.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 9.375,00 (€ 8.423,18) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Merritt Chase erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit I Think I Am Ready Now (The Mirror, The Pink Dress) im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 6.649.000,00 (€ 4.273.136,25).
