Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Sunset On The Hudson by William Louis Sonntag was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in June 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 22,500.00 (€ 20,395.21). Admittedly, works by William Louis Sonntag have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Morning In The Alleghenies in November 2012 with an auction result of USD 230,500.00 (€ 177,171.41).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Sunset On The Hudson von William Louis Sonntag im Juni 2016 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 25.000,00 – 35.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 22.500,00 (€ 20.395,21) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Louis Sonntag auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Morning In The Alleghenies im November 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 230.500,00 (€ 177.171,41).
