This artwork by William Henry Margetson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2017. In the Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art auction, the work The Red Hammock sold for GBP 87,500.00 (€ 97,636.56) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 35,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Henry Margetson; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot On The Sands sold at auction in May 2011 with the realized price of GBP 97,250.00 (€ 111,205.67).
