Auction result well in line with expectations
The work George Augustus Frederick, 6th Earl of Chesterfield, on his favourite hack by Sir Hercules by William Henry Davis was sold in the Sporting & Wildlife Art auction at Christies in London in December 2012. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,125.00 (€ 3,853.99) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Henry Davis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Colonel Newport Charlett's Favourite Greyhounds, at Hanley Court, Worcestershire in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 56,250.00 (€ 62,836.26).
