Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Lot with his wife and daughters cast out of Sodom by William Hamilton was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 9,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 4,375.00 (€ 3,703.55). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hamilton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Campi Phlegraei. Observations On The Volcanos Of The Two Sicilies. Supplement To The Campi Phlegraei Being An Account Of The Great Eruption Of Mont Vesuvius In The Month Of August 1779. Napoli: Pietro Fabris, 1776-79 in November 2010 with an auction result of EUR 82,350.00.
Observations On The Volcanos Of The Two Sicilies. Supplement To The Campi Phlegraei Being An Account Of The Great Eruption Of Mont Vesuvius In The Month Of August 1779. Napoli: Pietro Fabris, 1776-79 im November 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 82.350,00.
