In November 2007 Christies in London held the auction British Works on Paper, which included the work Figures before the Arch of Septimius Severus, the Forum, Rome; and Figures by the Temple of Saturn, the Forum, Rome by William Hamilton. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,750.00 (€ 5,250.97), 25% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hamilton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Campi Phlegraei. Observations On The Volcanos Of The Two Sicilies. Supplement To The Campi Phlegraei Being An Account Of The Great Eruption Of Mont Vesuvius In The Month Of August 1779. Napoli: Pietro Fabris, 1776-79 in November 2010 with an auction result of EUR 82,350.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im November 2007 führte Christies in London die Auktion British Works on Paper durch, in der auch die Arbeit Figures before the Arch of Septimius Severus, the Forum, Rome; and Figures by the Temple of Saturn, the Forum, Rome von William Hamilton zur Versteigerung kam. Observations On The Volcanos Of The Two Sicilies. Supplement To The Campi Phlegraei Being An Account Of The Great Eruption Of Mont Vesuvius In The Month Of August 1779. Napoli: Pietro Fabris, 1776-79 im November 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 82.350,00.
