Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Vortigern And Rowena by William Hamilton was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2012. The price achieved of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 21,582.36) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Hamilton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Campi Phlegraei. Observations On The Volcanos Of The Two Sicilies. Supplement To The Campi Phlegraei Being An Account Of The Great Eruption Of Mont Vesuvius In The Month Of August 1779. Napoli: Pietro Fabris, 1776-79, which sold at auction in November 2010 for EUR 82,350.00.
