Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by William Hamilton achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2017. In the Master Paintings & Sculpture Day Sale auction, the work Vortigern And Rowena sold for USD 47,500.00 (€ 44,005.93) - well above the upper estimate of USD 20,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Hamilton; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Campi Phlegraei. Observations On The Volcanos Of The Two Sicilies. Supplement To The Campi Phlegraei Being An Account Of The Great Eruption Of Mont Vesuvius In The Month Of August 1779. Napoli: Pietro Fabris, 1776-79 sold at auction in November 2010 with the realized price of EUR 82,350.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
