From his personal diary entries, Gollings would concentrate on creating paintings, seven inches by ten inches. The artist called those paintings “pot boilers.” The price range of the “pot boilers” allowed them to sell faster and provide for the livelihood of the artist.

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Night Watch by William Elling Gollings was sold in the 19th Century American & Western Art auction at Christies in New York in January 2024. It achieved a price of USD 35,280.00 (€ 30,833.77), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 18%. Admittedly, works by William Elling Gollings have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Buying Buckskins in February 2019 with an auction result of USD 220,000.00 (€ 193,338.61).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Night Watch von William Elling Gollings wurde im Januar 2024 in der Auktion 19th Century American & Western Art bei Christies in New York versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 35.280,00 (€ 30.833,77) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 18%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Elling Gollings auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Buying Buckskins im Februar 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 220.000,00 (€ 193.338,61).
