WILLIAM EGGLESTON (B. 1939) Untitled (Pinball Machine), 1980 dye transfer print signed in ink (margin) image: 17 1 ⁄ 4 x 11 1 ⁄ 4 in. (43.8 x 28.5 cm.) sheet: 21 1 ⁄ 8 x 16 1 ⁄ 2 in. (53.6 x 41.9 cm.) This print was likely made at the same time as the Troubled Water portfolio, though it is not part of that edition.
Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Untitled (Pinball Machine), 1980 by William Eggleston was sold in the Photographs auction at Christies in New York in October this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 20,160.00 (€ 19,076.46) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Eggleston achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled, 1970 in May this year with an auction result of USD 1,008,000.00 (€ 946,123.52).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Untitled (Pinball Machine), 1980 von William Eggleston wurde im Oktober diesen Jahres in der Auktion Photographs bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 20.160,00 (€ 19.076,46) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Eggleston erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled, 1970 im Mai diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.008.000,00 (€ 946.123,52).
