Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In June 2005 Christies in London held the auction MARITIME PICTURES AND WATERCOLOURS, which included the work A Royal Naval Two-Decker Heeling In The Breeze by William Edward Atkins. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 240.00 (€ 355.70), 20% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by William Edward Atkins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Battle of Trafalgar, 21st October 1805: The destruction of the French 74-gun Achille in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 1,410.00 (€ 2,304.59).
