Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2016 Christies in London held the auction Topographical Pictures, which included the work 'A Chinese of the lower class' by William Daniell. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,250.00 (€ 2,630.62) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Daniell achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shivala Ghaut and Cheyt Singh's House near Benares in December 2016 with an auction result of GBP 485,000.00 (€ 567,043.69).
