Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A wicker basket with roses, peonies and tulips and other flowers in a sculptured vase, with a bird on a marble ledge by Willem van Leen was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2014. The price achieved of EUR 8,750.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 7,000.00 – 10,000.00. Admittedly, works by Willem van Leen have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A fine still life of flowers in a stone vase sculpted with amorini on a stone ledge including a peony, anemonies, old roses, auriculae, chrysanthemums, daisies, larkspur and acanthus leaves, two goldfinches in a bird's nest in May 2004 with an auction result of GBP 26,290.00 (€ 39,444.68).
