In July 2017 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work The English Royal Yacht Mary About To Fire A Salute by Willem van de Velde II. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 812,750.00 (€ 906,904.19), 35% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Willem van de Velde II have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Dutch men-o'-war and other shipping in a calm in December 2011 with an auction result of GBP 5,921,250.00 (€ 7,091,533.28).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 35 % übertroffen
Im Juli 2017 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit The English Royal Yacht Mary About To Fire A Salute von Willem van de Velde II zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 812.750,00 (€ 906.904,19) und damit 35% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Willem van de Velde II auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Dutch men-o'-war and other shipping in a calm im Dezember 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.921.250,00 (€ 7.091.533,28).
