Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A States Yacht From The Admiralty Of Amsterdam, Before A Moderate Breeze, Meeting A Two-Decker by Willem van de Velde II was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2020. The price achieved of USD 500,000.00 (€ 450,734.70) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem van de Velde II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch men-o'-war and other shipping in a calm in December 2011 with an auction result of GBP 5,921,250.00 (€ 7,091,533.28).
