Auction result misses estimated price range
In July last year a collector was able to acquire the work The surrender of the Royal Prince during The Four Days' Battle, 11–14 June 1666 by Willem van de Velde II for GBP 3,907,000.00 (€ 4,665,651.93). This price was achieved in the auction Old Masters Evening Auction at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 4,000,000.00 – 6,000,000.00 set by the auction house. Other works by Willem van de Velde II have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in December 2011 by the work Dutch men-o'-war and other shipping in a calm at GBP 5,921,250.00 (€ 7,091,533.28).
