Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Calm – A kaag alongside a smalschip at anchor, with a weyschuit being pushed off the shore and a man-of-war firing a salute beyond by Willem van de Velde II was auctioned at Christies in December last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 378,000.00 (€ 426,725.18). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem van de Velde II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch men-o'-war and other shipping in a calm in December 2011 with an auction result of GBP 5,921,250.00 (€ 7,091,533.28).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A Calm – A kaag alongside a smalschip at anchor, with a weyschuit being pushed off the shore and a man-of-war firing a salute beyond von Willem van de Velde II im Dezember letzten Jahres bei Christies versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 400.000,00 – 600.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 378.000,00 (€ 426.725,18) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Willem van de Velde II erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Dutch men-o'-war and other shipping in a calm im Dezember 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.921.250,00 (€ 7.091.533,28).
