Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Dutch fleet becalmed with a snow in the foreground and a galliot on the left by Willem van de Velde I was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Bonhams in London in December 2020. The price achieved of GBP 10,200.00 (€ 11,394.31) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem van de Velde I achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch Harbor In A Calm With Small Vessels Inshore And Beached Among Fishermen, A Kaag At Anchor, A States Yacht And Men O'War Offshore: A "Penschilderij" in January 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,429,000.00 (€ 4,808,680.25).
