Upper estimate price exceeded by 61 %.
The work Dutch Shipping Under Sail by Willem van de Velde I was sold in the Old Master & British Works on Paper auction at Sothebys in London in July 2018. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 11,250.00 (€ 12,613.72), 61% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem van de Velde I achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch Harbor In A Calm With Small Vessels Inshore And Beached Among Fishermen, A Kaag At Anchor, A States Yacht And Men O'War Offshore: A "Penschilderij" in January 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,429,000.00 (€ 4,808,680.25).

Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Dutch Harbor In A Calm With Small Vessels Inshore And Beached Among Fishermen, A Kaag At Anchor, A States Yacht And Men O'War Offshore: A "Penschilderij" im Januar 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 5.429.000,00 (€ 4.808.680,25).
