This artwork by Willem van de Velde I achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January 2017. In the Old Master Drawings auction, the work The prow of the Danish ship Sophia Amalia sold for USD 16,250.00 (€ 15,054.66) - well above the upper estimate of USD 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem van de Velde I achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch Harbor In A Calm With Small Vessels Inshore And Beached Among Fishermen, A Kaag At Anchor, A States Yacht And Men O'War Offshore: A "Penschilderij" in January 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,429,000.00 (€ 4,808,680.25).
