Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Dutch Fleet At Anchor On The Open Sea by Willem van de Velde I was sold in the Old Master Drawings auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 12,500.00 (€ 11,580.51) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem van de Velde I achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch Harbor In A Calm With Small Vessels Inshore And Beached Among Fishermen, A Kaag At Anchor, A States Yacht And Men O'War Offshore: A "Penschilderij" in January 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,429,000.00 (€ 4,808,680.25).

Die Arbeit The Dutch Fleet At Anchor On The Open Sea von Willem van de Velde I wurde im Januar 2017 in der Auktion Old Master Drawings bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 12.000,00 – 18.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 12.500,00 (€ 11.580,51) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Willem van de Velde I erzielen.
