Auction result misses estimated price range
In July 2014 a collector was able to acquire the work Ships And Smaller Boats On A Calm Sea by Willem van de Velde I for GBP 9,375.00 (€ 11,824.82). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master & British Drawings at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem van de Velde I achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch Harbor In A Calm With Small Vessels Inshore And Beached Among Fishermen, A Kaag At Anchor, A States Yacht And Men O'War Offshore: A "Penschilderij" in January 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,429,000.00 (€ 4,808,680.25).
