Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2014 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Drawings, which included the work Commodore Beach And Admiral Van Ghent Attacking Algerine Corsairs Off Cape Spartel by Willem van de Velde I. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 18,000.00 – 22,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 18,750.00 (€ 23,649.65) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem van de Velde I achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Dutch Harbor In A Calm With Small Vessels Inshore And Beached Among Fishermen, A Kaag At Anchor, A States Yacht And Men O'War Offshore: A "Penschilderij" in January 2015 with an auction result of USD 5,429,000.00 (€ 4,808,680.25).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juli 2014 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Master & British Drawings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Commodore Beach And Admiral Van Ghent Attacking Algerine Corsairs Off Cape Spartel von Willem van de Velde I zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 18.000,00 – 22.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 18.750,00 (€ 23.649,65) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Willem van de Velde I erzielen.
