In May last year Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings, which included the work Still life of a pewter kanne, a roemer, an overturned silver beaker resting on a pewter plate and a ham upon another pewter plate, all upon a partially draped table by Willem Claesz. Heda. The »bidding war« ended at USD 945,000.00 (€ 880,626.22), 35% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Willem Claesz. Heda have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A blackberry pie on a pewter platter, a silver-gilded cup and cover, an upturned tazza, a partly-peeled lemon, a bread roll, hazelnuts, a façon-de-Venise glass, a silver decanter, a roemer, and a knife on a pewter platter, on a partly draped table in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 4,842,500.00 (€ 6,10
