WEI LIGANG (B. 1964) Fish, Bird, Lotus A set of four scrolls, mounted and framed, ink and colour on paper Each scroll measures 69 x 45.5 cm. (27 1 ⁄ 8 x 17 7 ⁄ 8 in.) Each scroll inscribed and signed, with a total of four seals of the artist All dated 2003 NOTE: Wei Ligang, born in 1964 in Shanxi, was originally trained in Mathematics at Nankai University in Tianjin. Since 1985, he has held solo and group exhibitions in China and overseas, including institutions such as the National Art Museum of China and the Shanghai Museum of Art. He has lived and worked in Beijing since 1995.
Auction result misses estimated price range
In August this year a collector was able to acquire the work Fish, Bird, Lotus by Wei Ligang for HKD 23,940.00 (€ 2,816.08). This price was achieved in the auction Summer Reverie: Chinese Paintings Online at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of HKD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Wei Ligang achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shield Array in April 2016 with an auction result of HKD 625,000.00 (€ 70,415.61).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im August diesen Jahres konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Fish, Bird, Lotus von Wei Ligang für HKD 23.940,00 (€ 2.816,08) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Summer Reverie: Chinese Paintings Online bei Christies in New York erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von HKD 30.000,00 – 50.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Wei Ligang erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Shield Array im April 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 625.000,00 (€ 70.415,61).
